Our Fundamentals of Woodworking class is one of our most popular repeats.

Here at Intersections Studio, our focus is teaching and fostering all the skills that you will need in any woodworking project. You will enjoy our relaxed atmosphere as well as guidance and advice from our instructors, many of whom are professional woodworkers and makers. We keep our class sizes small so you will have plenty of time with the instructor. Our Fundamentals of Woodworking course in Owen Sound will give you the perspective to understand the construction of many classic wood pieces, from chairs to jewellery boxes.

During this course, you will focus on a broad range of skills, progressively throughout the project. These skills include:

  • using our machines to cut the project elements to size
  • learning joinery techniques to assemble the pieces
  • using hand tools to refine the elements of the piece

and

  • finishing procedure to make a long-lasting, beautiful piece.

We hope that you will enjoy developing your woodworking skills as much as we love teaching them.

Our next instalment starts September 11th, with Pierre Rousseau. For updates and our fall brochure, join our email list today!

In our Fundamentals of Woodworking class we use the  construction of a side table project as an avenue for skill development. Through learning classical production methods of woodworking, you will learn the safe use of many machines, and proper techniques. We aim to provide a reasonable amount of time for a beginner to finish the project. However, if you need extra time please contact us for the available options.

Description

Based on the Fundamentals of Woodworking course, in your woodworking vacation you will make a beautiful side table with one of our experts. To make the project, we will use only traditional fine woodworking techniques. Learn a craft, deepen your skills while making a project that will delight the family and become an heirloom.

Pierre was born in northern Québec, and studied machining in high school where he caught the bug for making things. After working for a few months as a machinist making hydraulic cylinders, Pierre decided to take a different direction and joined the Canadian Military. In his free time, he also had woodworking as a hobby and took short courses at John Abbott College in Montreal, and at Rosewood Studio in Perth Ontario. Pierre retired in 2010. He has been living in Owen Sound since 2005 with his family. In 2010, he decided to enrol in the 12-week woodworking program at Rosewood Studio. Since then, he has been teaching woodworking at an Owen Sound high school for the past three years. For many years he has known about Stephen Hogbin through magazine articles and books. A few years ago, he finally got to meet him in person. Now, he is teaching alongside Stephen at Intersections Wood Gallery and Studio.
